The new WordPress version 5.7 has been released with some changes and is now available for all WordPress users to download. You can find out what's new in WordPress 5.7 compared to the previous version in the following overview. Teaser: WordPress 5.7 makes WordPress even easier to use.

Before you install the new update to take full advantage of the new WordPress 5.7, we recommend backing up your entire site. If your WordPress hosting runs via WPspace, this backup has been made automatically and is available to you at any time in case there are problems with the latest WordPress version.

Improvement of the button block

The major update includes versions 9.3 to 9.9 of the Gutenberg editor, which significantly improve the usability of the various blocks. The new WordPress extends the options for aligning the button block so that buttons can also be aligned vertically. Thanks to the vertical layout, buttons can no longer just be placed next to each other, but also underneath each other. For more individuality, the width of the button can now also be adjusted to four percentage widths (25 percent, 50 percent, 75 percent and 100 percent).

WordPress 5.7 offers new button functions

Simplified design options for social media icons

Social icons, such as Instagram, Facebook and co. now belong on every website. Not only because they improve the SEO ranking, but also to increase traffic between and on your own online presences.

Thanks to the new WordPress update 5.7, users can customize social media icons to their own visual preferences more easily than ever before. The new function in the Social Icons block allows you to easily and excitingly adjust the color of the icon and the background as well as the size of the social media icons. The design of the links to the social media can also be adapted to the overall look of your website.

Better color palette for more contrasts

More color palettes with WordPress 5.7

With the installation of the new WordPress update 5.7, users expand their color palette to seven core colors with 56 shades. The colors become darker and darker in uniform gradations. This allows clearer contrasts to be displayed. This is particularly interesting as the changes in the new WordPress 5.7 comply with the WCGA 2.0 AA contrast standard for accessible web design.

From HTTP to HTTPS with just one click

If your website is not yet SSL-encrypted, this can be done in no time with the new WordPress update. With just a few clicks, your entire WordPress website, including all URLs, can be switched from HTTP to HTTPS and displayed as "secure" for visitors. As an additional new feature, you will now also find a check of the current HTTPS connection under Website status.

One click from HTTP to HTTPS

SSL encryption is included in every package in our WordPress hosting service from WPspace, so you don't have to worry about HTTPS.

New lazy load function

New in WordPress is the exciting lazy load function, which could previously only be used via a plugin. This avoids unnecessary waiting times for visitors to your website, as images, videos and text are only loaded when they are needed. So when a visitor comes to your WordPress site, only the data that they actually see is loaded. This increases the loading speed of your WordPress site or store, especially on mobile devices.

Conclusion: Increased user-friendliness through new features in WordPress 5.7

With the first major update in 2021 and the associated exciting changes with WordPress 5.7, the CMS has responded to the critical voices that have emphasized the lack of usability in particular. Thanks to the optimizations in the new WordPress 5.7, every user, whether beginner or true WordPress professional, can save a lot of time and nerves when creating their own website.

The new WordPress version is not only exciting for the general user-friendliness of WordPress, but also for the SEO ranking of your website. Thanks to the Robots API, larger image previews can now be used automatically in search engines, resulting in better visibility for your website on Google.
